Connect is designated as a National Best Practice Program* that increases the competence and confidence of professionals and communities to respond to suicide incidents across the lifespan. This community-based approach focuses on prevention (education about early recognition), intervention (skills for responding to attempts, thoughts and threats of suicide) and postvention (promoting healing and reducing risk after a suicide).
Our training for key service providers, stakeholders and individuals promotes early recognition and intervention of mental illness, substance abuse and other conditions that increase the risk of suicide. Our community-based – i.e., town, campus, school system, faith groups or military – model improves understanding that each individual and community has unique risk and protective factors that impact suicide prevention, intervention and response.
